You can see the lights reflecting off the street signs at night. I have one complaint that is easily fixed with the included accessory: the light flashes in the bike rider's face! However, Cateye includes a sticker/decal to place over the top of the unit so the light isn't glaring in your face as you ride at night. The only gripe that I had with it (-1 star) was that it is made for horizontal tubes such as handlebars. There are four ridges preventing its use on vertical tubes such as the stem or head tube. I removed the ridges with a knife and can now use it on the head tube as I had planned. It slides into the holder very tightly.
