This was clearly the right choice for me. I found little practical difference between the metro 300 and the 350, and that decision was left to price. There are three real differences between the metro 300 and the pb2w: the metro 300 is 15-20 bucks more, rechargeable, and puts out more light. The intensity of the lights seemed pretty comparable with the metro 300 throwing out a somewhat larger cone (though none of these lights puts out a particularly wide beam). The metro 300 also has a steady-pulse mode that I like using in the city at night: it illuminates at full power but quickly winks every ~1.5 seconds. This gives you illumination to see by with just enough life to be eye-catching.
The only real drawback I see is that the charger uses the somewhat old-fashioned mini-USB style of connector, making it incompatible with the seemingly dozens of mic ro-USB chargers I have lying around for my phones, tablets, e-readers, etc. It is a standard charger, though, so dirt-cheap Chinese imports are readily available. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? < /span> 30 of 32 people found the following review helpful Sweet spot between convenience, performance, cost!, January 19, 2013 This review is from: Cygolite Metro 300 Lumen USB Rechargeable Bicycle Headlight, Black, One Size (Sports) I received one of these as a gift (even though I was planning on buying it for myself) and I'm really impressed. I frequently commute by bicycle, and this is now my favorite, most capable light. The beam with constant flash is outstanding, as it provides both illumination and a motorist-attention getting strobe effect. This is much better than some of my older pure-blinking strobes, that would get me dizzy, with their flashing if I was in an otherwise unlit area.
Charging is easy, I just hook it up to my computer at work, or laptop at home, uses readily available mini-USB. Seems to hold its charge quite well, as I have gone a few days between charges, and have noticed no weakness in the light during my 30 minute rides.
Another nice feature is that the light remembers the last mode it was in, before it was turned off. When turned back on, it enters that previous mode. No repeated button pressing required.
I have not had this for all that long, but so far it has held up to a few -4F rides, with no loss of illumination.
The included handlebar clamp is sized for Mountain Bike bars by default, but comes with some clamps for smaller diameter bars. These did not completely result in a tight fit on my road-handlebars, so I resorted to the classic bit of old inner-tube scraps to make sure it is firmly mounted and resistant to rocking or tilting. I tend to hang my lights underneath the handlebars, lower their center of gravity. Still works fine and is easy to engage like this. Recommended. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? < /span> 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful Great, very bright light, July 5, 2013 This review is from: Cygolite Metro 300 Lumen USB Rechargeable Bicycle Headlight, Black, One Size (Sports) My parents just bought this exact make and model light, at a bike shop, for , and its available on Amazon for . Its a super bright, light-weight, quality, rechargeable light. It uses micro-USB to charge it.
This is the 300-Lumen model. Cygolite makes, up to, a 1000-Lumen model called the CygoLite Centauri 1000, which costs about 0. The 700-Lumen Cygolight Expilion costs 5.
If you're like me, and trying to decide between the different brands try http://www.modernbike.com/light-comparison.asp which is a light comparison site. The site shows the same sidewalk being lit by every major bike light model on the market, including the Cygolite Expilion 300.
You'll see, its pretty bright. It does the job well. I mean, it'll light a sidewalk, but if you need it to light a street, you'll want the 700-Lumen model, which casts a wider, and longer beam. Also, the 700-Lumen model offers not only a handle-bar mount, but also a b ike-helmet mount, which may appeal to more people.
All Cygolite's have a removable rechargeable battery. It should be noted, that the 600 and 700 models have their own size battery, which may not be compatible with the lower models. From the sites I've read, that battery is recommended for those upper models only, so you'll want to be careful when ordering extra rechargeable batteries. The batteries seem to last a good, long time, and they come fully charged in the box, so you'll be able to use it, as soon as you get it. Or, at least ours did.
Overall its a quality, very bright light, at an affordable price, and its rechargeable. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? |
