5.0 out of 5 stars Good headlight, October 12, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CatEye HL-EL460RC Volt 300 Headlight (Misc.)
I think this is a very good headlight. I just started using it in the autumn 2013. I ride my bike early in the morning before sunrise when there is still dark and I prefer to use the flashing mode which makes me more visible. Few things brought my attention: first, I can see the road ahead me pretty well, second, the traffic lights more than 500 feet ahead of me also shine intermittently reflecting the light in such way that cars coming behind me also can see the same phenomenon. Third, I also can see how cars coming in the front can see me from the distance and lower their high beams to low beams from 500 feet or even farther. It is also very easy to install and remove.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bright Shining Star - Turns Night Into Day, November 19, 2013
By
Bob Blum (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: CatEye HL-EL460RC Volt 300 Headlight (Misc.)
I ride two hours a night in the dark. My main worry has always been fallen branches,
potholes, and other junk on the road. This light completely solves the problem.
It's so good, I just bought a second one (so that one is always fully charged.)

Initially, I hesitated before going with a USB rechargeable light. But, it's sooo much
brighter than a regular battery powered light that I would never go back.

I keep the light in Hyper Constant mode, which runs for 11 hours.
That mode blinks between high beam and normal and provides very bright road
illumination and excellent vigilance for drivers. With one push I get to the
high beam when on really dangerous roads. The beam collimation is just right.

Unlike the Cygolites, this light securely mounts (it does not shake around),
but is easy to remove. To disengage it, use your left index finger on the trigger,
while pressing forward on th e back of the battery with your right thumb.

Two minor anomalies (that are not deal-breakers): 1) the microUSB cable fits
very tightly (it becomes better over time). 2) The battery can be unscrewed
and used with a USB charging cradle, but it is NOT available in the USA (strange but true).

This light is also recommended by (and used by) the manager of
the Stanford Campus Bike Shop(another avid night rider).

5.0 out of 5 stars Enough for hitting the trail, November 24, 2013
This review is from: CatEye HL-EL460RC Volt 300 Headlight (Misc.)
I bought this light for the express purpose of riding my local mountain biking trail after dark. Well... I live in Minnesota, so maybe 'small hill biking' would be more accurate, but I digress. Having spent far too long investigating possible options, I arrived upon 5 requirements for the light I would eventually purchase:

1. Bright enough for riding singletrack at night.
2. Rechargable.
3. Self-contained unit.
4. Helmet mount included.
5. Those 4 things for as cheap as possible.

The only thing I couldn't be sure about with this light was whether the first, and most important, requirement would be met. 300 lumens seemed right on the edge of being bright enough to see effectively when trying to bomb down some singletrack. Thankfully though, I can report that it does the job pretty well. It doesn't light the trail up like the sun, but it does give enough light to ride at a respectable (if not exactly da ylight-comparable) speed. And given that it's significantly cheaper than the Lumina or Cygolite 700, I have no complaints. Besides, if you buy a light that's bright enough to light up the trail as clearly as daytime, where's the fun in that?
