Never worry about turning your tail light on (or off) again! The new Reflex Auto tail light has both optic and; motion sensors to determine when to automatically activate the light. When darkness and motion are detected; the light turns on instantly! The combination of active and passive safety help provide even more visibility.; The "active" safety refers to our standard tail light technology, perfected over years of development. The; "passive" safety component refers to our outstanding CPSC/BS/ECE/JIS reflector design that has exceeded; highest governmental standards for many years. The 5 super-bright modes, over 180 degrees of visibility, and; various mount options will help you stand out from the crowd and guarantee you'll be noticed at night!

I ride my bicycle at night and didn't want to take any chances with visibility, so I installed the head light (white) and tail light (red) versions of the CatEye 570. These are some of the only lights on the market that satisfy the CPSC's reflector standard, making them good enough to replace your bike's original reflectors. If you don't believe that passive reflectors, let alone active lights, are necessary, park your bike at night, walk away, shine a flashlight on the bike, and see how your bike would look to a driver. Perform this experiment for the left side, right side, front and back. What I found is that even in passive reflector mode (power off), my CatEye 570 headlig ht and tail light were the most obvious parts of my bike at a distance. 0 UPDATE: Daytime lighting improves visibility, so I used a cutter to cut one of the leads to the photocell. Now, my light comes on whenever my bike is in motion, whether or not it's dark outside. I recommend this 2-minute modification, though it will of course void your warranty. At first, I was skeptical about the automatic feature, which activates the lights when both of the following conditions are met: 1. darkness and 2. motion. After doing more city riding, I changed my mind. When I ride through a tunnel or a freeway underpass during the day, my lights come on without my having had to prepare in advance. I also had doubts about durability. I've returned a lot of lights, some of which broke the first time that the cases were opened. Any doubts about the CatEye 570 vanished when I accidentally dropped both of my lights onto a concrete sidewalk, from a height of about 4 feet. The cases opened and the batteries came out, but once I had put everything back together, the lights were little the worse for wear. Way to go, CatEye! UPDATE: The headlight version of this survived a serious bike crash that obliterated my brake levers and warped my front wheel! On a separate note, CatEye offers a wide variety of mounting options. Check out the "Small Parts Store" on the CatEye Web site, browse Amazon.com, or place a special order through your local bike shop, to obtain brackets for handlebars and head or seat tubes of different diameters; a nifty rear rack mount (L-brackets also work); and a strong and versatile clothing clip. If you often ride with bags, baskets, or bulky cargo, consider putting additional mounts on your bag or basket. I was able to use the clothing clip , plus some plastic zip ties, to add a mount to the front face of my removable basket. I used nylon screws to attach the rear rack mount to the rear face of my bag. This way, no matter which accessories I am carrying, I can hang my lights prominently. Final note: these lights are for being seen, not seeing. The headlight (white) version does not replace a headlight with a focused beam, necessary for seeing traffic signs and monitoring the road surface for debris. Ride safely, and remember that your bike is like anyone else's car -- so have fun customizing it! 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: CatEye Reflex Auto Bicycle Rear Safety Light TL-LD570-R (Sports) Cateye TL-SD570 works in dusk or night with a bright flash pattern. Seems plenty bright enough using the "long-life" patterns (one of 5 patterns). The sensitivity of the auto-switch works fine for me, staying on until full daylight. Turing the unit off is possible, but it is not possible to force it to flash in daylight. (It does run for about 10 seconds when you first turn it on (long button push), or change patterns (quick button push), so testing it and selecting the flash mode is easy in any lighting.) 0 Installation could be a bit tricky. As shipped, the package contains fittings for 2 diffent seat posts with with 1 and 2 mm pads to fit a total of 6 seat post sizes. The light also includes a fitting to attach to a rack. In my case, I replaced the cateye reflector that came with the bike, reusing the mounting hardware. You may need to get parts to adapt to your bike--check the Cateye web site for a huge assortment of adapters. Have not had the unit long enough to verify battery life (10 hours or so of use so far). Plan to replace batteries with rechargeable NI-CADs after the first set runs out. The unit unclips from the mount, making both theft and safe storage very easy. There is an optional theft preventor screw that will at least slow down a thief--and you when you need to change the batteries. The mount appears to be solid and unlikely to loosen due to bumps or rough trails. 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful By RW (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: CatEye Reflex Auto Bicycle Rear Safety Light TL-LD570-R (Sports) I really like this light - I have the LD560 (non-automatic light) on my bike, and got this automatic model for my partner (who seems to forget to turn on her tail light while riding and it gets dark enough to need the light). The automatic sensor does a pretty good job of deciding when to turn on, but I wish there was a manual override so I could force the light to turn on for rainy/foggy days. 0 I like the fact that it acts as a high quality reflector -- it's a much larger reflector than the one that came with the bike. It has a variety of flashing modes that give varying amounts of battery runtime: Constant mode' 30hrs Flashing mode' 100hrs Rapid mode' 60hrs Long-life mode' 120hrs Pulse mode' 30hrs Though to be honest, I'm not sure which mode is which. I usually use either the Flashing or Rapid mode. As I seem to always find myself saying about Cateye products: I like the light , but the mount leaves something to be desired. The rear-rack mounting bracket doesn't come with metal nuts. Instead it has self-tapping screws and little plastic "nuts" that you screw into. This doesn't seem very durable, especially if you unscrew it a few times. For the price, I feel like they could have thrown in some metal nuts like my Portland Design Works Radbot light. The Radbot 1000 blows this light away in pure intensity, but I feel that this light is better for visibility because the light has a larger surface area than the Radbot and has better wide-angle viewing. |
