I did consider several competing brands and now feel confidant that I made the right choice in Cygolite. The 300 Lumen light is able to completely light up a house half a block away at night. I can bike at full speed at night and see far enough ahead without worries of running into something on the ground. I have had oncoming traffic stop at bike crossings for me thinking I was a motorcycle or possible a train crossing the road in their direction, only to have confused look on their faces when a bicycle crosses in front of them. I find that I hardly use the light at it brightest setting even low works great at night on paved trails. The Metro 300 also turns on and off with the last used setting, which is untypical of older Cygolite units. The hotshot taillight is also very bright and can be see from very far away even during the day. The battery life appears to be great, I don't even need to recharge th e batteries after each ride. I however have yet to use the lights for a night ride over 3 hours, so I can't really say how long a single battery charge can last. 0 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful Perfect combo for road riding, Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cygolite Metro 300 Lumen Headlight/Hotshot Taillight USB Rechargeable Bicycle Light System, Black (Sports) The headlight supplies more than enough light for night riding on the road; I can comfortably go 30 mph+ without feeling like I'm going to die running over a stick/pothole/etc. The taillight is also extremely bright and has infinitely adjustable flash frequency settings, so you can dial it exactly how you want it. 0 I generally get 3-4 hours from the headlight on the "high" setting ("boost" is the highest, but not much brighter than "high" in my opinion) before it gets noticeably dimmer. The light does, however, give you plenty of warning in waning light output before actually failing. I've tried leaving the light on in my room on "boost", and it lasts ~6 hours before finally failing completely, though it starts to dim about halfway through that time. I've never had to charge the taillight in ~4 months of daily use (about 1 hour/day). I use the blink setting at a fairly rapid frequency, but I supp ose battery life would decrease if it was left in constant mode. The light is actually bright enough that you could use it as a headlight in an emergency. I've also used these lights on some pretty miserable wet/rainy days, and they've performed flawlessly. I've also managed to drop the headlight onto asphalt several times, and it's hardly even been scratched.
